About
Rachel Boettigheimer is a dedicated Special Education Teacher with a passion for empowering students with diverse learning needs. Raised in Valhalla, New York, Rachel’s journey into education began as a Teaching Assistant in the Valhalla Union Free School District, where she worked from 2006 to 2010. Her hands-on experience in the classroom inspired her to further her education, earning a Bachelor’s degree from Mercy College and a Master’s degree in Special Education from the College of New Rochelle.
Rachel’s love for travel and reading plays a key role in her teaching approach, as she incorporates global awareness and creativity into her lessons. One of her most popular classroom projects, ‘Reading Around the World,’ uses literature and interactive activities to introduce students to different cultures while building their reading and comprehension skills. Her commitment to providing enriched learning experiences extends to DonorsChoose projects, through which she secures vital classroom resources.
Beyond the classroom, Rachel is actively involved in the MS Walkathon, an initiative close to her heart due to her personal connection with the disease. Through her work, Rachel fosters an inclusive, supportive environment where all students can thrive. Looking ahead, she aims to deepen her expertise in neurodiversity and explore teaching opportunities abroad to bring fresh, innovative strategies back to her classroom.
